LARH Finds Permanent Home

(LAHR) The Lansing Association for Human Rights is proud to announce that it now has its own offices, located on the 8th floor of the Plaza Hotel complex (Suite 837), directly across the street from the Michigan State Capitol.

The office, located in Lansing's. downtown area, is easily accessible to all, via public transportation. For a nominal fee, large meeting rooms are also available on the second floor of the hotel as well.

Slated services include a gay/lesbian hotline, drop-in area, library, and

permanent staff for those interested in dropping in.

LAHR officials are quick to point out, however, that such services are presently non-existent, and will require volunteers within LAHR.

This variable opportunity to utilize LAHR's new offices should not be missed. For more information on how you can contribute to making this an important community center, contact LAHR at Suite 837, Plaza Center (corner of E. Michigan and Capitol Avenues), Lansing,. Michigan.

LAHR-PAC REGISTERS

The Lansing Association for Human Rights Political Action Committee (LAHRPAC) has officially registered as a politica! action committee supporting candidates and issues of concern to lesbians and gay men, LAHR-PAC is the first gay political action committee to organize under the campaign finance and organization provisions of the Michigan Campaign Finance Act. Several other gay political action committees have been operating in Michigan over the last several years, but have operated in such a fashion so as to not have to file with the Secretary of State.

The Michigan Campaign Finance Law requires that political action committees that raise or spend more than $200 in a calendar must file statements of organization with the County Clerk's office. Once these are filed certain periodic reports are required with fines and penalties for failure to report or late filing.

Other gay political action committees have studiously avoided going over the $200 limit and have channeled individuals contributions directly to the candidate campaign or ballot issue committee. MOHR
